The spirit of the Past is Xander, her late husband and first sincere love. The spirit of the Present is Xavier, her great love with whom she is currently in a fighting divorce. The spirit of the Future is X, the man she will one day end up with. This year, Carola's Christmas will be primarily a time of insights about how she stands in relationships: a mirror for her behavior toward men.
