Archaeology days at Ammersoyen castle
During the Archaeology Days on June 14-16, take a look at the Shards Lab at Ammersoyen Castle. Here volunteers and archaeologists puzzle together the many thousands of shards from the moat. Will you come and do the puzzling? Of course you can also take a look around the castle with the new public presentation.
Unique archaeological find
During the restoration of the castle in the last century, the castle moat of Ammersoyen was excavated. Thousands of shards and objects emerged that had been used in the castle over the centuries. It turned out to be the largest archaeological moat find ever made at a castle in the Netherlands!
For decades, this archaeological collection was stored in the castle attics. Until the Schervenlab van Ammersoyen opened in 2023. Here volunteers and archaeologists now work under the eye of visitors to identify and piece together the shards.
A visit to the Shards Lab is free with an entrance ticket to the castle. Order your e-ticket through the website.
