Sentimental and humorous film about a young boy who survives the Armenian genocide in 1915.

As a young boy, Charlie (Michael Goorjian) was forced to flee Armenia. When he returns in 1948 to help rebuild, not everyone is enamored with the returning "Amerikatsi." Despite all the setbacks, Charlie has retained his childlike wonderment for the world, even when, upon his return, he is immediately unjustly imprisoned in a Soviet prison. With infectious positivity, he makes the best of his imprisonment where he uses the sparse bright spots to give hope during the dark days.

Amerikatsi is the first Armenian film ever on the best international Oscar shortlist and is based on a true family story by the director , who dedicates the film to his own grandfather.
