Maria tells the story of legendary opera singer Maria Callas. In an intimate portrait of the final days in the life of this iconic diva, we see her struggle with mental appearances, her mental state, the fear of losing her voice and the memories of her childhood and loved ones. Assisted by servants, friends and her beautiful music, Callas wanders through the rooms of her apartment and the streets of 1970s Paris, and through her struggle with the challenges of fame, love and the quest for artistic perfection, the film reveals the vulnerable woman behind the icon. After Jackie and Spencer, Pablo Larraín creates the latest installment in his trilogy of sensitive, poignant biographical films about world-famous, tormented women. Maria is yet another compelling and visually rich narrative that, thanks to Oscar winner Angelina Jolie's peerless performance, brings to life the complexity and tragic beauty behind the figure of "La Callas."
