Charismatic bi-cultural women in quirky mix of music-making and interviewing
The music performance "Hoezo Bach?!" is a quirky mix of making music and interviewing. Two charismatic bi-cultural women challenge each other in sharp and humorous ways about their passion for music, as well as their Moluccan and Surinamese backgrounds. Both grew up with Western culture, but at the same time steeped in the culture of their ancestors. Then Johann Sebastian Bach, the greatest composer ever, takes over. That Bach, is it still possible?

The music performance "Hoezo Bach?!" is a quirky mix of making music and interviewing. Two charismatic bi-cultural women challenge each other in sharp and humorous ways about their passion for music, as well as their Moluccan and Surinamese backgrounds. Both grew up with Western culture, but at the same time steeped in the culture of their ancestors. Then Johann Sebastian Bach, the greatest composer ever, takes over. That Bach, is it still possible?
During this performance, violist Esther Apituley talks about her passion for Bach and why that one note sounds so brilliant and inescapable. Journalist Noraly Beyer entices and challenges Apituley. Marnix Dorrestein and Xander Vrienten, both great admirers of Bach, reflect on the composer from their own idiosyncratic point of view and take Esther and Noraly with them. Music is abstract, but what images emerge when you listen to it? Is the violinist always right? Or does the interviewer unmask her?
