Lecture: Beyond the clichés about the Dark Ages
As part of History Month, there will be a lecture in Ammersoyen Castle on Monday, Oct. 21, about the clichés surrounding the "dark Middle Ages" by historian Nathan van Kleij.
The Middle Ages are often described as primitive and barbaric. Everything is dirty, people stink and women have nothing to say. This is the image in the popular imagination, but what it is fact and what is fiction? Where do these clichés come from and why are they so persistent? And what was it really like with those medieval states?
The other Middle Ages
During the lecture, Nathan van Kleij will talk more about the unknown sides of the Middle Ages. Nathan is a historian, lecturer in medieval history at the University of Amsterdam and one of the authors of the book 'Medieval fellow humans. Beyond the clichés of the dark ages'.
