Organist Gerard Adriaanse
Gerard Adriaanse (1973) took private lessons successively with Frans van Tilburg, Johann Lemckert and Geert Bierling; with the latter he also studied harpsichord. He was a two-time laureate at the Garrels organ competition in Maassluis (1997 and 1999). During the concert in the Sint-Jan, he will perform works by Daan Manneke ('De zonne rijst') and Olivier Messiaen ('La Nativité du Seigneur'; the birth of the Lord), among others. The concert program ties in nicely with Advent, the church season we are currently in until Christmas. "La Nativité" (The Nativity) by Messiaen is based entirely on the birth of Jesus. In "De Zonne Rijst" by Manneke, that relationship is somewhat less explicit, but still clearly present.
Everyone welcome
During this varied concert, the beautiful sounds of the Pels organ will be done full justice in the acoustics of the domed church. Everyone is welcome in St. John's and admission is, as always, free. The organ concert on December 21 will begin at 3:45 p.m. Afterwards, a free donation is requested to cover the costs of this activity.
