Candlelight shopping Heusden Vesting
A joyful atmosphere
It's almost Christmas already and that means: Christmas market season! Scattered throughout the Netherlands you will find countless, beautiful Christmas markets. One of the most atmospheric is perhaps that of the medieval fortified town of Heusden. It is a true concept in the region. The beautiful Brabant fortified town has much to offer. Throughout the year there are various activities and events to experience in Heusden. Take, for example, the annual Candlelight Shopping event. This year the event returns again on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 in the fortified town. The atmospheric Christmas market in Heusden will be there for two days from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Every year this Christmas event in Heusden gets bigger than before, so again this year. Streets and squares full of decorated stalls, fire pits, food trucks and stages scattered across Vismarkt, Engstraat, Botermarkt and Nieuwstraat, it promises to be another magical getaway! To complete your perfect getaway, book a cozy little hotel or if you have your own camper, book a camper spot in Heusden, allowing you to experience the fortified town a little longer. Heusden has much more to offer besides the Candlelight Shopping. Enjoy historic buildings, picturesque streets, art and unique boutiques. And all this enjoyment should of course be accompanied by a delicious bite to eat at one of the top restaurants in Heusden Vesting. For example, you can visit Het Wapen van Heusden, Ons Gheluk or BOEI35 for a delicious lunch, dinner or drinks. Or combine the Christmas market in Heusden with a visit to Het Gouverneurshuis, a wonderful museum that focuses on the history of the fortified town.
So are you looking for a fun winter Christmas activity in North Brabant? Come to Candlelight Shopping in Heusden, the very best (free) Christmas market in the Netherlands!
PS: Coming by car to Candlelight Shopping in Heusden? Then keep in mind that it will be very busy. We advise you to park on the large parking lots outside the fortress. From there you can walk to the Christmas market within 5-10 minutes. From the parking lot on the Steenweg (between Heusden Vesting and Oudheusden), shuttle transportation will run between 16.30 and 21.30 for a small fee.
Boutique
Besides all the fun Christmas stalls that are there, the stores are also open. Be sure to take a look there for your Christmas shopping. At In d'n Kaarsenstal you can find the most beautiful candles for an attractively decorated, festive table. With Christmas dinner, a nice drink can't miss: Stadsslijterij De Waterdrager has more than enough to choose from. And of course, gifts are also part of Christmas. There is always something nice to find at Berg & Braam candy and toy storeand at Smits Schoenen you have beautiful leather accessories to give as gifts.
Entertainment
Have you ever seen a living Christmas tree or snowman? During Candlelight Shopping Heusden you can encounter them. Of course Santa Claus will also be there. He has traded in his reindeer for a nicely decorated golf cart. In addition, there are 3 ladies walking around in their beautiful homemade, illuminated dresses: a real eye-catcher. Would you like to become an eye-catcher yourself? You can do so at the face painting opportunity. And if you get cold, you can go to the Vismarkt to listen to stories about Heusden by the campfire.
Furthermore, spread over 2 days, 6 choirs, 2 moped orchestras, a band and a singer will provide a cozy atmosphere in Vestingstad Heusden. Enough music to enjoy. There will be a stage at Vismarkt and photo opportunities will take place on the stage in front of the town hall. The money raised from these photo opportunities will go to the Princess Máxima Center.
The old city hall
Heusden Vesting is known for many things, including its historic buildings. Take the old town hall as an example. In this beautiful building you will find our Tourist Information Point (TIP). This is also open during the Candlelight Shopping days. Feel free to come in and take a look at the model of Heusden Vesting, for example.
Also, our volunteers are here for you. They can answer all your questions and tell you more about the history. If you prefer to explore on your own, you can do so with one of the many walking or cycling routes in and around Heusden. There is even a treasure hunt: fun for the little ones.
Have fun and happy holidays!
