A joyful atmosphere in Heusden
It's almost Christmas, and that means: Christmas market season! Scattered throughout the Netherlands you will find countless, beautiful Christmas markets, but one of the most atmospheric is without a doubt the one in the medieval fortified town of Heusden. It is a true household name in the region. This year, the beloved Candlelight Shopping event returns on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14. The Christmas market will be open both days from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and it promises to be another magical outing.

Diverse participants
The organization proudly announced that there will be as many as 115 participants in 2024. They offer the most beautiful and diverse items: from Christmas decorations, candles and jewelry to ceramics, clothing, home accessories and pet supplies. Children's items and unique bags can also be found. In addition to the commercial stalls, a number of charities are also represented, so you not only score something beautiful with your purchases, but also support a good cause.

Enjoying delicious food and drink
The Christmas market has more than enough food trucks to indulge your taste buds. Choose a tasty burger or hot dog, for example, or go for exotic Thai or Surinamese dishes. Are you craving something sweet? Then you can find delicious syrup waffles and other treats. All this makes Candlelight Shopping not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the stomach!

In addition to the cozy Christmas stalls, the stores and restaurants in the fortified town are open until 10 p.m. during Candlelight Shopping. This offers even more opportunities to find unique gifts or treat yourself. New this year: wishing tree and illuminated extras
A special addition this year is the 6-meter tall wishing tree, whose lights were turned on by Joris Linssen on Sunday, December 8. The episode of Joris' Christmas Tree will be broadcast on NPO on Christmas Day. The wishing tree forms a beautiful centerpiece at the Christmas market, where visitors can leave their Christmas wishes. There are also special extras walking around, including some in brilliantly lit dresses. These living works of light art are a real eye-catcher and complete the enchanting atmosphere.

Entertainment for young and old
During Candlelight Shopping, you can enjoy a variety of entertainment. Choirs, mops and bands will provide musical entertainment.

Practical tips
Coming by car? Then park outside the fortress in the large parking lots and the other designated (temporary) parking spots. You can walk to the Christmas market from there in a few minutes, and shuttle buses run up and down from various points for a small fee.
