Pearl of The Langstraat: In d'n Kaarsenstal Heusden

Very often we get requests for city walks through the beautiful fortified town of Heusden. As Regional Office for Tourism De Langstraat, we obviously can't get enough of this place and we know better than anyone else where you should visit during your walk. You have to look behind the doors of the beautiful buildings. And so now I am off to visit In d'n Kaarsenstal in Heusden. De Keuringsdienst van Waarde has been there regularly and Libelle magazine has written an extensive article about it. To top it off, presenter Nicolette van Dam and her husband Bas Smit also walked in and mentioned In d'n Kaarsenstal in their book 'Nederland heeft alles'. On to the fire!

As soon as I walk into the Nieuwstraat in the cozy center of Heusden, I already see my destination. The colorful display at the entrance immediately catches my attention. Once inside I see one and all candles. The smell of real candles is also abundant.

I feel more than welcome by the reception of Toon and Ria Verschuren. Immediately we end up in a nice conversation, "I was in the transport business, but the crisis put an end to that and I asked myself, what now?" says Toon. Together with his wife, Toon thought about the wishes, ambitions and especially the feeling of finding a new challenge. They saw that the premises came up for sale and, after some consideration, took the plunge into In d'n Kaarsenstal where Toon himself makes every candle by hand.

Toon learned the craft the old-fashioned way via transmission from master to apprentice. He was eager, enthusiastic and challenged himself more and more with even more difficult tasks, so he quickly mastered the craft. He had found his passion in life. Practice, practice and more practice," says Toon. And practice makes perfect, because the results are amazing! Beautiful handmade works of art, no one candle is the same. That already provides the most ultimate experience.

How glad I am that I got to know this store. The candles can be fully customized so if I am looking for a personalized gift (birth, wedding, etc.) I will definitely go back there.
