Pearl of De Langstraat: Parfumerie Heusden

Last week I was received in the best smelling store of Heusden! Upon entering Maryse Vos (41) already estimated which perfume would suit me. She gave me this fragrance to take home. Would this be my fourth fragrance? Four! Yes, surely everyone has four fragrances or more. Do you read?

From the pharmaceutical industry to being her own entrepreneur
Maryse originally started working in the pharmaceutical industry, such as pharmacies and hospitals. She has always been interested in the ingredients of a product and finds it important that it contains beautiful, good and sustainable ingredients. When they moved to Heusden, she started dreaming about her own perfume store. Nine years ago in 2012, premises became available in the Nieuwstraat and despite being pregnant, she went full steam ahead with this dream of becoming her own entrepreneur. She started with different fragrances, but over the years she began to specialize in niche fragrances.

No standard scents
They are also truly unique fragrances. Maryse explains; "The fragrances we have here you just have to smell. They are usually not standard flower fragrances, they are more complex fragrances that you have to put on your skin. The people behind the fragrances are also more artists, they don't look at what most people want, but really focus on the desired scent." Maryse also goes every two years to a big perfume fair in Florence, Italy, where she meets the people behind the brands and other perfumeries. That way she alternates fragrances from time to time. The perfumes in the store also all have their own story. For example, there is the Eight & Bob for sale, which John F. Kennedy met during a trip in France and loved immensely with him. Maryse thinks the story behind the perfume is very important and loves to tell you these wonderful stories behind these unique fragrances.

The ideal fragrance
The small scale of the store means there is plenty of room for personal attention and good advice. "It is of course a matter of taste which fragrance you like. I make it a bit of a sport to estimate a scent when someone comes in. But I start talking to people about what they like, like grass or fresh sheets." For me personally, it seems difficult to name a scent desire, but Maryse has a solution for this as well. She has developed a scent test that she also often uses at her workshops. This is how she comes up with "Roses Musk by Montale Paris." A sweet fragrance that I can try out on special occasions in the near future by means of a sample! Personally, her favorite scent is the smell of her children's necks, indescribable she calls it, but as a mother very recognizable. In terms of perfume, it is Anni Venti by Tonatto Profumi.
She indicates that most women have at least four kinds of perfume (or more ;) ), one for work, one for when you go out and one summer and one winter. Always a good "gift" so perfume! You can never have too much of this!

Dreams
Maryse is very happy with her store that she started at thirty-two. You can see this when she talks enthusiastically about her store and the fragrances. When I ask her about her ambitions, she replies, "I would like to add more beautiful brands, and perhaps another store, like in 's-Hertogenbosch. It is not in the planning now, but perhaps one day ".
