Jan and Hetty started in 2020. After the store was open for two weeks they had to close for five months due to the corona period. That was a big bummer but because of the nice big windows the store has, they were still able to sell some stuff. Jan and Hetty have been in the brocante business for over ten years. Before that they only did fairs throughout the Netherlands, about thirty a year. These fairs sometimes lasted one day but sometimes a full weekend. At that time Jan still had a job and could easily combine this with the fairs. Hetty did everything from home at the time. Besides the fairs, they also did shop in shop for a while and had a store in Breukelen. Then through the Old Post Office came their way. The owners of the building are old colleagues / friends from Jan and Hetty's brocante business. Besides the beautiful stuff you can also go to Jan and Hetty for interior advice and styling. This is also possible on location. Jan and Hetty are also involved in the decoration of store premises. They decorate the premises with items from the interior design store that you can also buy. Each season they change the theme of the decoration.

The building in which the store is located has a rich history. The building is already 120 years old and was built as a post office. The State owned the building back then. Inside, you can still see the partition where the stagecoach used to come in. It was a post office until about twenty years ago. The name the old post office is a household name, which is why Jan and Hetty chose to keep the name. Many people who used to work in the post office still regularly walk in with great, historical stories. The logo of the home improvement store was made from an old postcard that depicted the post office.

Although Jan and Hetty are really people from the brick-and-mortar store, they are currently in the process of launching a webshop with the bric-a-brac and home accessories so they can extend the service. They are also in the process of introducing a super special service. Five years ago Jan and Hetty bought an old granite countertop. With this they wanted to make something in the garden. Jan went to work with it and made a beautiful outdoor kitchen with the countertop incorporated. He put a picture of it on Facebook and got a lot of reactions asking if he could make something like this for other people. Meanwhile, they have created a separate website for ruin building in the old style: www.ruinebouw.nl. Here you can think of a very cool way of building with mortar dripping out, old stable windows, old window frames, doors, et cetera and all of that custom made based on your wishes. They also sell the old building materials separately. If you have your own old stuff, Jan can incorporate it into the construction as well. If you are looking for an outdoor kitchen, a crumbled wall, a barbecue spot or something completely different? Then be sure to take a look at the website!

Jan and Hetty regularly go shopping in France with one market in particular. They then drive to France together on Saturday afternoon. The first traders with trucks arrive then. With large carts they wander the huge market and buy stock so you can dress up your home with the most beautiful and unique items. Besides this market, they also visit their regular merchants several times a year who collect stuff for Jan and Hetty.

Jan and Hetty often attend local events that are organized with their store. Last year, for example, the winter fair at Geertruidenberg's historic market was a great success!
