Fortunately, a group of residents ensured that the entire town was restored starting in 1970. Because of them, much of old Heusden was preserved or rebuilt in the old style. The town even won an international award for its restoration. The statue "the Gable Viewer" that you find in front of the town hall symbolizes this.
