Poor as a church mouse means very poor. For a while, Heusden was street poor. The inhabitants had almost nothing except an important location! Even William of Orange knew that. He placed a group of soldiers in Heusden to protect the city. Those soldiers had to eat, sleep somewhere and their clothes had to be washed. For this, the inhabitants of the town were given money. • Iconoclasm
At the beginning of the Eighty Years' War, the statues on and in the church were destroyed.
  • World War II
In November 1944, the tower, nave and organ were destroyed by the Germans.

Continue route
Walk through the gate and turn left into Putter Street so that you walk past the church to the Governor's House. The gate of the Governor's House is almost always open so you can enter the garden.
