Monument Meester Schoenmaker proverb trail
By now you know that the shoe industry was very important to Kaatsheuvel for a long time. Around 1860 more and more machines arrived, but due to lack of money and fear of the unknown, people in Kaatsheuvel refused to use them for a long time. When they finally did, leather tanning and shoe making went much faster. That in itself was very nice, of course, but the other side of the coin - the other side of the story - is that many people lost their jobs as a result. Many small factories closed and others were able to grow bigger and specialize.
The statue of the shoemaker was placed here as a monument in 1987. Thus one is still reminded of the rich shoe industry of Kaatsheuvel.
