Making too much of a fuss
The saying "making too much of a fuss" is not such a positive saying. If you've "made too much hay out of things," what you really mean is that you've said "yes" to too many things and you're in trouble as a result.

The workers who worked in the shoe factories got a lot of hay. In other words, they had to work hard! The cottages in this old street are real workers' houses. In Hooisteeg lived families whose father worked as a tanner or shoemaker in one of the factories. Sometimes a family lived with as many as 10 children in one house! For the 100 or so people who lived here, there were only 2 toilets and they were also outside. Can you imagine?

If you walk here at night, you will see something special: many buildings will be illuminated blue! It refers to leather tanning; the profession of many workers who used to live here.
Everything is music!
In the Hooisteeg you will find a 100-year-old music kiosk. It stood outside the center of Waalwijk for 84 years, but got this beautiful spot in 2021. Now live performances regularly take place there: 'That sounds like music to your ears'. In other words: that is very pleasant!
