The building that now has the address Grotestraat 212 stood there as early as 1774. More than 25 years later, it reappeared in the archives as Herberg De Zwaan. In 1838 Adrianus Verwiel, a scion of a formerly very well-known Waalwijk hotel and catering family, took over the inn. After remodeling the upstairs room, he becomes host to the well-attended weekly tanners' fair around 1860.

"Looijersbeurs" became the official name of the café from 1882 to 1912, which in between was also a hotel for several years and in which the first Waalwijk office of Van Gend & Loos was established.

The subsequent name will be "Café De Kroon," but it will have the addition "formerly the Looijersbeurs."

In 1918, a colonial goods store is established in the building. Ten years later, the new owner turns it into two stores. A small one, located at the Market Square, and a large one. The largest, on the corner with Grotestraat, is leased to Jamin until 1976.

A few other shopkeepers then move into the space, until the property regains its initial catering use in August 1990 when Peter Simons opens Grand Café Kandinsky in the section adjacent to Grotestraat. In mid-1995, the De Bruyn family takes over the café from him and continues it as a food bar. In 2003, the last store moves out of the other part of the building and Eetbar Kandisky is expanded to its current size.
