Accessibility and parking

Accessibility for persons with disabilities

We are aware that information surrounding the various forms of accessibility is often difficult or impossible to find. We are currently working hard on this topic and hope to be able to share useful information here for persons with disabilities in the near future.

Fortified Town Heusden
Heusden Vesting is a medieval, small town where you will still find many cobblestone streets. Unfortunately, both the streets and the buildings were not built with accessibility in mind.
Several business owners have taken measures and, for example, have threshold plates and a disabled toilet available. The public toilet at the little bridge at the town harbor and the toilet in TIP Heusden (Pelsestraat 17) are also suitable for the disabled.

Waalwijk Center
Shopping center De Els is easily accessible for disabled visitors, given the barrier-free entrance doors. Many other shopping and catering premises in the center are also accessible. Also, wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge at the bicycle shed.

We always recommend that you contact the venues in the region you want to visit yourself, so you can make a good estimation of whether you can go there (with your party).

Municipality of Heusden

Parking Heusden Vesting
It is best to park your car on the edge of the vesting. There are three large parking lots where there is often enough space: on the Vestingstraat (P Heusden Centrum Zuid), the Mastdijk (P Heusden Centrum Oost) and the Tramhaven (P Heusden Centrum West). Parking is also free here. From here you can walk to the center in 5 to 10 minutes. This is a nice walk; along the way you get a nice view of the ramparts.

The parking spaces in the fortress are primarily for residents/permit holders. Parking in the fortress is allowed only in the designated spaces and in some streets is paid parking.

Buses
Large buses (coaches) can enter the fortress via Steenweg and Oudheusdensestraat. On the Burchtplein, passengers may disembark. The buses themselves may not be parked here. Parking is available Monday through Friday at P Heusden Centrum Zuid.
On Saturday and Sunday, buses can enter the fortress via the N267, (Heesbeen exit), and then drop off passengers at Burchtplein. The bus should leave the fortress via the Hrt. J.v.Brabantstraat towards the Steenweg, and then park in parking lot P Heusden Centrum West.

Parking Drunen
Parking for a visit to the center of Drunen is best done at Antonpieckplein 1 (free) or Aalbersestraat (free).

Parking Vlijmen
Parking in Vlijmen is free at the Burgemeester van Houtplein.

Parking Nieuwkuijk & other villages
Coming to visit Nieuwkuijk and the small, surrounding drops in Municipality Heusden? Parking here is usually free and can be done along the road or in the designated parking spaces. In a blue zone you have to use the parking disc. Paid zones are indicated by signs.

Municipality of Geertruidenberg

Around the historic core of Geertruidenberg, there is ample parking within short walking distance of the Market Square. Parking is free in the entire municipality of Geertruidenberg, including Raamsdonksveer and Raamsdonk.

Paying for parking

Are you in a paid parking lot? Paying is as follows:

Parking lot with barrier
You will receive your exit ticket immediately upon entering. Before you leave the parking lot, you need to pay for your parking time at the parking lot vending machine.

Parking lot without barrier
Payments must be made in advance. This can usually be done in two ways:

  • At the parking/payment kiosks around the parking lot (usually possible with both cash and card).
  • With the EasyPark app: you link this to your license plate and payment card and then activate the parking action at the correct location. Just before you drive away, you stop the parking action again.
