Statue "Mother and Child"
You wouldn't know it, but the station of Waalwijk once stood on this very spot. The only reminder that now remains of the station is the statue you are standing in front of: "waving woman with child. The bronze statue shows a mother and child together waving father the commercial traveler goodbye at the train. He sets off with his homemade shoes to sell them in the big city.
The statue is a tribute to the shoemakers from Waalwijk who played an important role in the development of the region. If you look closely, you can see that the pedestal on which the sculpture stands resembles a piece of a platform. The work was presented to the town's residents in March 2014 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Lions Club Waalwijk and was created by Astrid Koppen.
