Roman Catholic Boys' School (1903-1968)

The community of Waspik built a public school on Schoolstraat (formerly called Kerkpad and Bovenpad) in 1903. The few girls who attended the school were of Protestant origin. The Catholic girls could be educated by the nuns on Kerkstraat. In 1920, St. Bartholomew Parish took ownership and changed the school to a Catholic boys' school. The Protestant children were given their own school on 't Vaartje. In 1921, the school had five classes and another expansion followed ten years later. In 1968 the boys transferred to the mixed schools "Jacinta" and "De Hooght", thus ending the educational function. The building served as a youth center Den Bolder for another three decades. In 2000 it was decided to build the "Social Cultural Center Den Bolder", the old school building was demolished.
