Theodore statue

Since the fall of 2017, St. Theodorus has been back in its place, on the old playground of the former boys' school. When the school was demolished in 1994, the facade sculpture was preserved and given temporary shelter in the Church of Our Lady of Ascension. Veers Erfgoed thought the statue should be returned to the streetscape. With the help of Theodorus Ambassadors, mainstays, volunteers from Veers Erfgoed and the municipality of Geertruidenberg, this was accomplished. Back at its old location, the statue refers not only to the past, but also to the present and the future. In the fall of 2017, during the statue's reinstallation, schoolchildren from Veers elementary schools placed a time capsule in the base of the pedestal with numerous data, photos from now and objects from the past. When those memories from 2017 resurface in 100 years, it will again be historical material for the generation of then. The Theodorus statue was officially unveiled in December 2017 by Alderman Van den Kieboom and one of the oldest students of the former boys' school, Mr. Harrie van Steijn. According to good Catholic custom, Pastor Van der Laer blessed Saint Theodorus after the unveiling.
