Attention stone - Schoenfabriek AH van Schijndel
Shoe factory AH van Schijndel (1910-1965)
In 1900, Antonius Hubertus van Schijndel bought the last vacant lot in this street and set up a steam factory there that met the latest technical requirements. In 1909, the firm A.H. van Schijndel obtained the designation "Royal." In 1910, the factory was expanded with a five-story office and production building with monumental facade: Art nouveau elements in the nameplate and decorative brickwork around the windows. With 150 employees, it was one of the largest shoe factories in Waalwijk. In 1965 the factory was one of the first to close, heralding the demise of the leather industry in De Langstraat. H.C. Meulkens was the architect; his work was typical of the local development of industrial engineering. Apartments were built behind the original facade.
