The Bergen Court

In rural Raamsdonk you will find a beautiful Bed & Breakfast in an authentic building. This place has a rich history. We went to visit Jaap and Marleen to check out their beautiful place. Read more below!

Fourteen years ago Jaap started the very first Bed & Breakfast in Raamsdonk. The B&B is a large apartment with a separate bedroom for two people. The building was built in 1704 and served as a rectory from 1780 to 1880. At that time they had a hidden church in the garden because Catholics were not allowed to have a church here. In 1880 that changed and the shelter church was moved to the church in the village. What is now the B&B used to be the pastor's room. He prepared his sermons here. The pastor's maid had a separate room what is now the bedroom for B&B guests. It is a modern B&B but the old elements such as the stained glass and lead have been preserved. Thus the whole room is full of details from the past.

The B&B has its own kitchen with dishwasher, large dining table and a spacious sitting area with TV. The bedroom and bathroom are separate from the living room. The B&B is adults only and can be booked for two nights or more. They also offer several options for breakfast. You can choose no breakfast, a stocked fridge with fresh rolls at the door, or a super extensive breakfast cart if you want to treat yourself to a good breakfast.

They take great pride in making people feel at home here. Marleen is also very proud of her breakfasts. No breakfast is the same and she always makes it something unique. Marleen and Jaap also have a special place outside for guests. This allows guests to enjoy their stay to the fullest without being disturbed. Feel like exploring the surroundings? There are bicycles available for B&B guests so you can go out and explore. Do you have a four-legged friend? Your dog is also welcome in the B&B. Jaap and Marleen also offer pick-up and drop-off service if you are going to dine chic.

The future

Starting January 1, another house will become available in Jaap and Marleen's yard. This will be a vacation home or a house for when people are in between houses. They are also working on a canopy/ garden house with fireplace where the B&B guests can sit when the weather is not so good. Starting in the new year, Marleen is also going to organize workshops. Her ideal is to create a flower-picking garden where people can come by and pick their own bouquet. Jaap's ideal is an outdoor cinema where people can enjoy a nice movie in Italian atmospheres in a beautiful spot. Finally, they would love to create RV sites focused on animals in the back of the yard.
