Woudrichem Fortress
As early as the year 900, Woudrichem was mentioned in the possessions of the diocese of Utrecht. In 1356 it received city rights and played an important role in the defense of the area, together with Gorinchem and Loevestein. Together they formed an iron triangle. The fortifications, built by order of Prince William of Orange in 1584, are still authentic. Several buildings are reminders of this period. The military function of Woudrichem was only abolished in 1955, after which the city could develop further.
