Huize Chartroise was commissioned by Mayor Mr. Theo Heere and built in the years 1940-1941. It was designed by the Brabant architect C.H. de Bever. In the top gable is the name Chartroise, the French name for Carthusian. This refers to the former stately home of the craftsman lord, near the foundations of the Carthusian monastery, in the vicinity of the current Kloosterhoeve. In the back facade is a gable stone from that house, with the family coats of arms of the grandparents of Anna van Son, ambachtswoman of Raamsdonk from 1751 to 1789. The former municipality of Raamsdonk bought the house from the Heere family in 1970 and converted it into a town hall.
