Attention stone - Capelle City Hall
Capelle town hall (1879-1922)
In 1877, 1700 m2 of land was purchased for the construction of the town hall. On April 17, 1879 Mayor H.J. Wellenbergh laid the first stone, March 11, 1880 the town hall was inaugurated. The total building cost with furnishings, was 19,120 guilders. On January 1, 1923 the merger with the municipality of Sprang and the municipality of Vrijhoeve Capelle took place, because of this the town hall lost its function. The building was sold by auction to a group of residents for the purpose of obtaining a function for local residents. On December 22, 1944 (during World War II), the town hall was hit by a German V1 ("Vergeltungswaffe Eins"), completely destroying it, as well as the buildings around it.
