The 1898 Bovenlandse Sluis (also called Bovenlandsche Sluis or Doeverense Sluis) between Waalwijk and Heusden is like a crossroads of waterways. By means of a siphon, the 't Oude Maasje can flow here under the Drongelens Kanaal to eventually continue its path towards the Zuiderkanaal. The water of the Drongelens canal flows into the Bergsche Maas after the lock.

The monumental lock underwent a large-scale restoration in 2017. Since then, among other things, the lock has been remotely controlled and a special lock has been installed for fish migration. As a result, the Bovenland lock won the 2018 HSSN prize, which is awarded annually by the Netherlands Foundation for Historic Locks and Dams.

The bench at the lock is a wonderful resting point during bicycle tours through Heusden municipality and Waalwijk municipality.
