Mill The Untired
Surrounded by a lot of sweet little animals you will find the Onvermoeide in Raamsdonksveer. The Onvermoeide is a grain mill from the year 1890. We spoke to Jos, the miller, and Bert from Veers Erfgoed about the beautiful mill.
Jos decided 35 years ago to take care of the animals living around the mill. He moved in, into the house next to the mill and became a miller. At first he did this all by himself but now he gets help from a young miller and from Bert of the Veers Erfgoed. The care of the animals has now been taken over by another party. Veers Erfgoed has worked hard to raise money for the maintenance of the mill. Bert also organizes the annual mill day.

The mill was restored in 1974 after it suffered significant damage during World War II. This left the mill without sails for a long time. Fortunately, enough remained intact so it could be refurbished.
The mill now turns about once a week but this is highly dependent on the weather. It is important that the mill turns regularly. When the blue pennant is hanging in the mill, it means the mill is open for visits. You can then visit to see the inside of the mill and hear the story behind it. Want to be sure to visit the mill during your trip in our community? You can always make reservations for a tour by phone or email.
Bert and Jos describe the mill with the following words: idyllic, unique and golden.
The Mill Day
It takes place every year on the first Saturday in September. Around the mill are stalls full of local produce. For the children there is a bouncy castle and Old Dutch games are organized. What is also super fun on this day is that the children can be pulled through the meadow on a sail by two horses, how cool is that!
'The best part for me is to see the children having such a good time.'
In addition, there is always a catering service and a choir will be present. A small exhibition of the past will not be missing from this day either. In the mill there is also a small millstone for the children to grind grain. The mill day is for young and old and is super educational and fun.
A day at the mill for Jos
When Jos goes to the mill, he first looks to see where the wind is coming from. Then he sets the mill on the wind and checks how much wind there is. Based on this, he determines whether the mill can run with or without sails. The mill can still grind grain if grain is put in at the top.
