Charity Franciscus de Sales (1858-1957)

In March 1858, seven sisters of the Congregation Jesus Mary Joseph (J.M.J.) settled in Waspik to provide education for girls. They occupied the house of mayor Frans Kamp, which in the meantime had been remodeled and provided with a new facade with the name "Liefdegesticht Franciscus van Sales." In 1880, a girls' school appeared west of the convent to meet the growing need. The convent also served as a hospice for the elderly and was expanded several times to accommodate increasing demand. Monastery and adjacent properties fell under the demolition hammer in 1957 for the construction of the new Saint Joseph retirement home. After rebuilding in the 1980s, construction of the current care center began in 2011.
