Brickworks D'n Oven
Steenfabriek D'n Oven, founded in 1890, experienced its peak in the 1960s, producing some 28 million bricks a year. One in 50 houses in the Netherlands was then built with bricks from Udenhout! The curtain fell in the 1990s and through-via the factory site came into the hands of Brabants Landschap. After demolition, it became part of an "ecological connecting zone" between the adjacent Leemputten and De Brand. Animals can reach new habitats along there and exchange genes with populations elsewhere. The Leemputten, which remained after the excavation of loam, have developed into an eldorado for amphibians. And the rich soil there guarantees lush plant growth.
