Slagerij Van Roessel Waalwijk

In 1845, Tilburger born Johannes van Roessel started a tannery on the Grotestraat in Waalwijk. However, his sons turn out to be more interested in the butcher and butcher's trade. Son Willem starts a business in Tilburg, after which Johannes and his wife decide in 1878 to quit the tannery and open a butcher shop in Waalwijk as well. Son André develops into a skilled "meat cutter and bacon butcher."

In 1922, André transfers the butcher shop to his son Alphons. When Alphons died suddenly ten years later, it was decided to send his son Otto to butcher school immediately. He was only 14 when he slaughtered his first cow.

Otto's eldest daughter Anneke is caught with the "butcher virus" at the age of 8. In 1973, she marries Jan van Dun, who by then had been working in her father's business for several years. When Otto dies in 1976, the couple takes over the business and expands it further. As the first female butcher in the Netherlands, Anneke van Dun receives the "Meesterslager" certificate in 2003. In the same year, Van Roessel is appointed court supplier, and meanwhile the sixth generation in the person of son Dennis van Dun enters the business.

After several moves, Van Roessel returned in 2010 to the street where it all began in 1878 and opened a new food store at its current location.
